Some reports say the earthquake sent tremors through the popular touristic region of Murcia. The U.S Geological Survey said the epicenter was one kilometer below the ground. A milder quake of 4.5 magnitude had hit the town shortly before. The Deputy Prime Minister will travel to the town this week to examine the damage. Lorca, which has a population of about 90,000 people, dates back to the Bronze Age and probably gained its name from the Romans.
